I noticed a post one of my Yahoo groups concerning the use of GIS in historical projects. I am a bit of an amateur historian so I found this NY Times article particualrly interesting. Last year, I visited the Revolutionary War battlefield at Monmouth, New Jersey. A member of the local historical society gave us a personal tour of the area. During lunch, we had a lengthy discussion concerning the use of GIS to recreate the battlefield since most of it was covered by the ever present urban sprawl. This battle would benefit significantly from this technology since the battle was strung out across the British column.
